| Tour Information: |
The mountains here are hailed as containing the strongest source of spiritual energy in Northeast China, and an obvious spot for Buddhist worship. So from this perspective, building the area into a Zoo was not the most logical step. However, the Zoo certainly benefited from the scenic vantage and is one of the city's favorite tourist spots for locals and visitors alike.
A Jade Museum Temple complex was later added in a non-religious attempt to establish a spiritual site at this special location. After two years it was officially converted into a Buddhist center for worship, fulfilling a decades long effort. |

Dalian Forest Zoo
Formally established in 1997, the Zoo more closely resembles a forrest perserve. Its nearly 8 kilometer area is comprised of lush mountain ranges that overlook the ocean.
In 2007, the Dalian Wildlife Safari Zoo (and Dalian Botanical Gardens) was combined with the Dalian Forrest Zoo. On opposite sides of Lianhua Mountain, visitors originally required separate tickets to visit the both areas. The merger opened more access to the combined locations, and provides a better experience at a better value.
Lianhua Mountain Temple
Historically, this area was considered one of the most spiritual locations in China. The surrounding mountains were special to the Buddhist faith, but no formal temple was ever developed there. However, after much lobbying with the government of China, in October 2005 the Jade Museum was built. It contained the largest display of Jade Buddha statues in Northeast China. While the building design and complex layout looked like a traditional temple, at least in name and on paper it was referred to as a museum.
As of October 2007, the area became known as the Lianhua Mountain Temple. It was updated from its unofficial temple museum look and is officially recognized. As such, it has the associated public status of a Buddhist temple. Lianhua Mountain temple is the largest and closest Buddhist facility to the Dalian metropolitan area. With its prime location next to the Dalian Forrest Zoo, it will continue to grow as a popular tourist and pilgrim location. |
